Monsters in the Night

Joran Van Der Sloot.... he reminds me very much of Scott Peterson... the one that killed his pregnant (with his own child) wife on Christmas eve. Yeah, that one. The one who could only think of himself. The one that would rather kill his wife than leave her and have to pay child support. He actually thought he could get away with it. These are the kind of monsters that can look you straight in the eye and tell you they didn't do it. The kind of people that have ZERO conscience. They aren't immoral as much as they are amoral - without morals. Without conscience. Void of ANY sense of right or wrong.
And it is these kind of people that completely befuddle me. We know they are out there. We read books about them. We see movies about them. But we don't understand them. They don't seem human. All I can figure is that they are possessed by the devil. It's my only spiritual explanation. It is the only thing I can imagine when I hear of these types. Types like the mothers who murder all of their children.
In recent months, in the Northeast, I think New Hampshire? there were these trashy white boys in their late teens and early 20's. They decided to rob a house, and they had decided beforehand that if anyone was inside they would kill them. Just for fun. They said that... just for FUN... It was late night, they cut the electricity and went in with huge knives and their cell phones for light. As fate would have it, the father was away on a business trip and the mom and daughter were home sleeping... When the mom got up when she heard them, they violently stabbed her. And then they stabbed the junior high age daughter, and she faked death. Then they stole the usual stupid stuff and left and were bragging the next day. That's how they got caught quickly. They were bragging. Stupid lowlifes. When caught, one of them said his only regret was that he didn't kill the daughter, and finish her off.
Well, they are now in jail, but somehow that's not comforting. Some people, like these guys and Joran Van Der Sloot, need to be taken out and shot immediately. Oh, and tortured first. A lot. Not that it would change them.
It would just make us feel better....
