April is the cruelest month

Ten years ago tonight, just after midnight, my sweet mother passed away... It had been Easter that day as we felt helpless watching her suffer all day.
I miss you Mom...

Freaky Fridays

No doubt you've heard about the Jet Blue pilot on a flight from New York to Las Vegas who had a meltdown this week. He ran up and down the aisles of his jet screaming "Say your prayers" among other things until an ex-NYPD cop and some other big guys tackled him and held him down until they made an emergency landing in Texas. But that's not the point of my story, as I'm sure you've heard that part.

What interests me is that Carson Daly, who was trying to be funny in a truthful kind of way, said on his show that it was a stroke of good luck for the passengers to have the ex NYPD cop and others on their way to a security convention in Vegas on the plane. He said it would have been his luck to have a bunch of gays heading to San Francisco to a Gay Pride parade.
Here is his quote:
"Most of the people were on their way to some sort of security conference in Las Vegas... it was like a bunch of dudes and well trained dudes... thank God," Daly said. "With my luck, it would be like... 'this is the flight going to the gay pride parade in San Francisco... I mean, that would be my colleagues."
And since he said this, Gay groups have been criticizing him and demanding an apology. So, my point is, how is this anti-gay? Gay guys pride themselves on being feminine, so why is this statement insulting? They were, in fact, fortunate to have all of these tough guys on the plane.
You can't have it both ways...

"The more people I meet, the more I like my dog..."

If you would indulge me one more personal post, then I will get back to saving the world tomorrow, one post at a time.

After our traumatizing ordeal yesterday, DD and I decided we no longer wanted to live in a neighborhood where our neighbors do not respond when someone is yelling "Help me" at the top of their lungs at dinner time. We decided to put the house up for sale. My town is pretty nice for the most part, but last night, they acted like New York City. If I wanted soul-less people who don't care to help their neighbor in need, then I would live in the big city. But I have chosen a quaint small town and I expected better. A LOT better.
The response from friends was huge - even bigger than when my parents died, but then we didn't have Facebook ten years ago... And DD said her entire high school, including teachers were entirely sympathetic. But then most people have a dog, love dogs or used to have a dog, so pretty much everyone can relate. Pets bond us to each other. Pets give us unconditional love. Pets are part of our family. But my neighbors??
They let me down...

Requiem

A sad personal post... Our beloved yorkie, Toto, was viciously attacked today and later died. DD is still sobbing...
When we got home, I took him out to the alley as I always did to go to the bathroom. He went down a few houses to a neighbor that had 4-5 big lab mix dogs. Before I knew it, one of them had jumped at the fence, & knocked a slat a loose, creating an opening big enough for part of his head. Toto was right there and as I tried to grab him, one of those dogs got their head in through the hole, grabbed his neck & sucked him in their yard. Then they started a feeding frenzy on my poor tiny dog...

I climbed the fence & was screaming non-stop for help like a maniac, all while helplessly watching my dog be viciously attacked. I tried to grab a big rock to throw at the dog, but I missed but it was futile since no one came to help, the dogs were in pack mentality and they were all huge.
When they finished, I ran to the front door of this homeowner, thinking they must not be home, since I had screamed for help at least 10 minutes. Incredibly they WERE there, and although said they heard nothing, this was physically impossible...
Toto was barely alive so I ran home & then tried to find a vet that would answer since it was after hours. All this time DD was screaming, and the vet's didn't even answer the emergency numbers. Finally we found a young female vet who would meet us and when we got there, he had blood coming from his mouth & bottom. She thought he could be paralyzed and said he was in shock and we would see how deep the wounds were. He died 30 minutes later...
My daughter has been sobbing for hours. The house is so silent.. No barking. No pitter patter.
Goodbye sweet Toto, our hearts ache...

"Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school." - Albert Einstein

Ok people, it's time to start considering dumping public school if at all possible... (sigh) I mean I cannot afford private school, but if you have a very young child, you might keep it in mind for the future. Just read a story that the New York City schools are asking that certain words on tests not be used for fear of upsetting the children.

What words you ask?

Birthday (Jehovah's Witnesses don't celebrate them, so nobody else should know about it)
Dinosaur (people who don't believe in evolution might be offended)
Halloween (rumored to support Paganism and that bothers some)
Dancing (unless it is ballet dancing)
Computers (if mentioned that it's in a home - use in schools and libraries is ok)
Topics to avoid:
Divorce (could be from split marriage)
Disease (could have sick relative)
Wealthy people (could create jealousy)
Poverty (poor kids offended)
Slavery (obvious reasons)
Terrorism (too toxic)

Can you EVEN believe this? Is this not political correctness gone completely amok???
Where is sanity??

"WANTED - Dead or Alive..."

I don't want to talk about it. I don't want to read about it. What am I talking about? The Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman altercation and subsequent death.

I DO know that here in the United States we still try cases in court, and not on the streets, as the Black Panthers are suggesting by putting a $10,000 bounty on Zimmerman's head, dead or alive. And why isn't anyone saying this is wrong? They are not the Supreme Court. This isn't the wild, wild west, is it? Is THAT what we're coming to? We are not innocent until proven guilty any more??
We all know there are two sides to a story. And I'm not siding with either side because I don't know all of the details, but then I'm not in law enforcement, so it's not my job. Does anyone else besides me think that this nation is a whole lot more racially divided since Obama became president? It seems much more so in the last three years. And then the Prez comes out and says that if he had a son, he would look like Trayvon... Say what??!! That is so BEYOND presidential. It is so BEYOND reason to even SAY that. And why would he seemingly choose a side before he even had the facts? Do you remember early in his presidency when he also rushed to judgment with the cop and the black professor, and they ended up having a beer together in the Rose Garden for a photo opp? Yes, there is this template of evil non-blacks being racist against blacks, and Big Media are willing accomplices to fill in the templates.
From what I can see, the really upset people who now want George Zimmerman's head don't want to hear facts. They don't seem to want to hear that there are witnesses and friends who have evidence and history to the contrary. No, those facts just get in the way of their hatred and anger. They want someone to rage on.
And then there's the whole merchandising angle that shows how sick our society has become -- hoodies are now the big symbol for this incident because of Geraldo Rivera's comment, "I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin's death as much as George Zimmerman was." And does anyone else find it disgusting that Trayvon's mother is trying to TRADEMARK Trayvon's name, so that she can get a portion of the money being spent on the merchandise being sold??
Heaven help us...

"Begin the began..."

My blood is boiling! Just read an article in UK Daily Mail titled, "Was Cheney too old to get a transplant? 71-year-old former Vice President accused of favoritism over heart surgery."

This REALLY gets me going!! So we're starting Obamacare now, and the Death Panels reject our former vice president?? Is he supposed to take a painkiller like the Prez told the woman at a Town Hall meeting to tell her elderly mother instead of getting a new pacemaker??!! The article goes on to say, "Though they do not think that he was moved up the transplant list, he was given the organ that could have gone to thousands of younger recipients who would have more years to live with it." I had even read that he waited LONGER than most, but that is not my point. My point is, that it has begun. Now the government decides who lives and who dies.
WE MUST REPEAL OBAMACARE!

"Win one for the Gipper"

There are so many negative things I could write about, but I'm not going to...

In my effort to be positive tonight, one of the things that REALLY makes me happy is that Rick Santorum won the Louisiana primary. Thank God!! He is SUCH a standup guy with such an admirable family. Sure there are some things that I disagree with, but the main thing to me is that the president have a strong moral character so that when he comes to the decisions he has to make as leader of this country, he will pray and ask for wisdom in those things. Santorum is this kind of man, and is evidently strong enough for this grueling process that has become even more so due to the Left's Big Media Spin & Lie Machine. The things they have already said about his children are despicable, but then they have a double standard with anything their opposition says. Because of Big Media, it appears we are "losing the war" in this country, but guess what? God is still in control, He's still the King of Kings and He will triumph!!
And along the same lines, I'd also like to mention something, actually someone else who lifts my spirits tonight - Tim Tebow. I'll admit I was really disappointed when the Denver Broncos let him go for Peyton Manning, but after I thought about it, I realized, again, God is in control. Yes, He allows free will on this planet, but His word says He works "all things together for good, to them who love God, to them who are called according to His purpose." Well, Tebow certainly qualifies for that verse, so I am assured that He will bring great things regarding Tebow in New York. I read recently that the United States has now become a missionary field for Africans - sounds weird but when you think about it, it makes total sense. And where else but New York would be the epicenter of this mission field?
Anyway. Tebow is up for the challenge.
And I'll be adding him to my prayer list...

Every American should read this

Shut up!

Okay, just a short post because I've had 2 hours sleep the past 2 nights, since I've been at my daughter Alex's house with her newborn.

Anyway.
I say SHUT UP. Actually I'm THINKING worse words, (think Shut the Front Door) but I will keep it clean because that's what we're supposed to do. But I'm really SO sick and tired of the left blaming Rush Limbaugh for absolutely everything (they think) is wrong with the world. Today, they are blaming him for the murder of Trayvon in Florida... Go figure... The problem is that they don't even listen to Rush, because if you do, you learn that he, in fact, is NOT racist. As a matter of fact his right-hand man is Bo Snerdley - an African-American man, a man of color. But they blamed Rush for the Oklahoma City bombings and pretty much everything else because he's hugely popular, and they are frustrated with that, and they REALLY want to bring him down. We've learned this week that Media Matters has been waiting for a flap with him to bring him down and start a false boycott of his advertisers.
These evil doers (as W used to call them) will stop at nothing....

"If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to slaughter." - George Washington

One thing that has GOT to happen if this country is going to continue to be free, is that it must be revealed who Big Media really is. It's something Andrew Breitbart was committed to - exposing the fact that they are the arm of the Democrat party - and consequently starting Alternative Media to actually attempt to be truthful (or at least cover the other side of the coin.)

The example today is the Prez's older daughter, Malia, who is evidently in Mexico for Spring Break with her (private) school. Evidently there had been some stories out there about this on various outlets' web sites, and Glenn Beck's alternate media, The Blaze, noticed that these stories all were mysteriously disappearing, with no explanation. From The Telegraph to The Huffington Post, these news sites deleted related stories. "It doesn't surprise me that the White House would request that journalists not cover the spring break of the president's daughter, it surprises me that (outlets) would just take the stories down, noted Poynter Institutes's Kelly McBride. She added, "Part of the problem is that it leaves the audience wondering what type of power the Office of the President has over the media." The Institute's Jane Kirtley agreed, calling the removals "a little bizarre," claiming that it is "virtually impossible" for media outlets to take something back once it's been published. She thinks a correction would have been the best way to handle the situation. McBride concurred that the trip itself wasn't the story, but the fact that since it is the president's daughter, it would be reasonable for reporters to ask about the safety of the trip (since warnings were given to Americans not to travel to Mexico for Spring Break) and also "reasonable to ask if it is an appropriate use of resources to send 25 Secret Service agents to guard a 13-year-old in Mexico and her entourage."
Ya think...

"This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave."

Something has changed... it's like the earth tilted on it's axis... I can't explain it, but something changed.

Two weeks ago when I heard that Andrew Breitbart was dead, I got a sickening feeling that wouldn't go away. And I didn't see many people talking about it in the media. Yes, the top conservative radio hosts did -- Rush, Sean and Glenn, but definitely Big Media was strangely silent. Here was a man that helped bring down ACORN and Anthony Wiener, and at the CPAC convention had baited that on March 1st he was coming out with videotapes that would vet the president. And then, just after midnight on that VERY DAY, March 1st, walking home from a bar, Andrew Breitbart collapsed and died. Here was a man who was fearless, who had been told by many to get a bodyguard, and was now dead at the young age of 43. Breitbart was known to have some non-threatening heart issues, and it is possible that it was natural causes, but the timing is very suspect...
My ears perked up that day I heard the news and Big Media said he died of "natural causes." Really? The autopsy hadn't even been done yet. And the toxicology results are still not available as I write this. Besides, I don't believe in coincidences. Was he murdered? Well, there are tons of people that hated him... He lived in the middle of Los Angeles and had dissed Hollywood types a lot. He brought down ACORN. And there are a ton of haters in the blogosphere. But I don't hear about anyone investigating it. There is just silence. Strange silence. If the same thing had happened to a leading liberal, it's all we would be hearing about. And ironically, that's the sort of thing Breitbart was fighting...
I found myself wanting to connect with others with the same suspicions that I have. I did the same thing in the late 90's when the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal broke. I started listening to Rush Limbaugh, looking for like-minded people. I had a Twitter account that was dormant, but decided to start looking for Breitbart lovers and fellow Tea Party patriots, to see what they were saying. No one is accusing anyone of anything, because we really don't know. I doubt we ever will. I just know that Breitbart's death, whether by natural causes or not, has had the opposite effect of what the liberals would want it to.
It has pissed us off. It has woken up the sleeping giant. And it has given us the resolve that we will fight to save the country we love so dear, just as he did.
We want to restore the country to the ideals we were founded on-- life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And we want to stop those (morally and legally) who are trying to limit our freedoms, unlike the liberals who, as Breitbart said himself in his book, "Righteous Indignation," believe the means always justifies the end.
Are the liberals on Twitter too? You bet they are, and I have no problem with that. I respect their freedom of speech, although they don't seem to respect mine -- that old double standard they hold so dear.
The Twitterverse is a place to have a conversation about whatever we want whenever we want. It's a place to use our freedom of speech about our freedom of speech. Breitbart devotees have an 'army' quietly forming to fight in the arena of ideas.
Come join...

"The British are coming! The British are coming!"

Last night the Prez held a "State Dinner" at the White House (which wasn't TECHNICALLY a state dinner since the Queen of England is the actual Head of State...) No, this was British Prime Minister David Cameron and the Prez in a lovefest of words for each other. Articles read that Michelle and David's "chic" wife Samantha, coordinated to both wear blue (what, are we going to prom together as BFF's??)

Evidently the Prez also included more than three dozen of his top re-election campaign financiers as guests - Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, media mogul Fred Eychaner, Pfizer executive Sally Susman, Stoneyfield Farms president and CEO Gary Hirschberg, and Microsoft executives Suzi Levine and John Frank. Several have each raised more than half a million dollars for 2012 according to estimates provided by Obama's campaign.
Also reported was that 41 of the 364 attendees were Obama campaign "bundlers" (volunteer fundraisers who give the legal maximum and then gather checks from friends and others who do as well.) And then, the 'piece de resistance' - George Clooney. That decision was a win/win for the Prez, since he's a top A-lister in Hollywood AND a 'good' liberal Democrat, testifying this week for Sudan. All reports say the dinner was very expensive, adding that for the first time ever, the White House wouldn't release the types of wine served for fear of criticism.

So I guess this was the Prez's way of saying thank you--
only it's "We the People" who are paying for it...

"Oh say can you see..."

There is SOOOOO much in the news I could write about today, so it was hard to narrow it down to just one thing. But I like to write about what makes me passionate, and THIS really gets me going.... The doctored American flag, in which the stars were removed and Obama's photo inserted, had been flying for several months outside a local Florida Democratic Party headquarters. Evidently a Korean war veteran, Don Van Beck, took pictures of the flag, saying it made his blood boil. "I can't describe how upset I was because you just don't do that to the American flag," he said. He and other veterans demanded that they remove the flag, saying it as a violation of the federal flag code that prohibits any "marks, insignia, letters, words, figures, designs, picture or drawings of any nature."

"If you've been a veteran and fought, and some died for this flag, you don't want to see it desecrated. That's how simple it is," Van Beck said. Retired Marine John Masterjohn added, "It's a cult of personality to show his face, like Stalin or Mao. It' despicable. They don't realize how sick they are." I totally agree. This is the sort of thing countries with dictators do, like Kim Jung Il, Hugo Chavez, Saddam Hussein and Fidel Castro, to name the recent ones.
The chairwoman, Nancy Hurlbert, said "We're proud of our president and we didn't realize it was in violation. I am the chair and I take responsibility for this." According to the Orlando Sentinel, Hurlbert said she would look into the issue but didn't take the flag down right away. A short while later, she conceded and removed it. She said that since no one had said anything for several months that she believes it's not about the flag, adding, "Certain elements cannot accept Barack Obama as president."

No, Nancy - you just don't get it. He's not king and he's not a dictator. He is an elected individual of a republic. Our flag has been fought over since this country's inception, and it is sacred to us. We don't want ANY person's face on it EVER. We the people run this country, not one individual.
But then, we don't expect you to get it...

"ET phone home..."

Today, I need a feel-good story and maybe you do too.

The preface of the story is a young man, Jack Froese, (pictured above on the right) from Pennsylvania died suddenly of heart arrhythmia last year. A few months later a group of his friends began receiving email from his account. The friends said that they did not believe the account was hacked since the emails included personal information that could only have come from Froese.
Said one friend, "One night in November, I was sitting on my couch and going through emails on my phone and it popped up sender 'Jack Froese' and I turned as white as a ghost. I read it, and it was very quick and short and to a point that only Jack and I could relate on..."
Another friend said that he emailed the account back but didn't receive a reply. After that, the emails stopped coming.
I've always wanted just one more conversation with my (deceased) mother.
Oh, I wish this would happen to me...

"Eat, Drink and Be Merry..."

Tonight the headline that catches my eye is, "Man found dead at his own bachelor party, the day before his 26th birthday." Jacob Jarozewski of Kansas City, Missouri was going to marry his high school sweetheart, Alyx Ailmus in just two weeks. Instead his family had to plan his funeral.

I've been talking about bachelor and bachelorette parties lately since my older two children are in that phase of their lives. And movies like "Hangover" have only made them even crazier than they used to be. When I was in that time of my life, people usually had these parties within the week of the wedding, and sometimes even the day before. Consequently the bride was mad at the groom for getting too drunk, or worse, and there were lots of hungover guys at the wedding.
Somewhere in there the brides started wanting their own night of singleness with their friends, and somehow it has evolved into the recent movie, "Bridesmaids" in trying to compete with the guys. This only fuels the fire with the current generation, and it becomes one upmanship in trying to beat their friends. No longer can they just go to a bar in their own town, now they feel obligated to go to somewhere more exotic like Vegas, if they are privy to money. Alex was in a wedding of a wealthy East Texas girl who loaded everyone on her daddy's private jet and flew them to New Orleans for bar hopping on Bourbon Street and spa days. (sigh) I mean it sounds impressive but it just all gets too extreme. I guess that's how I'd describe it. The Baby Boomer's children have heard all their parent's stories and then want to do even more?
Anyway.
Another case of Hollywood dictating the narrative...

"Stay Calm and Carry On???"

Well, it's Sunday, so here's a "religious" themed story. The headline caught my eye, "British Christians fight for right to wear a cross to work." Ugh, really?! And the story is just what it sounds like. These women have taken their case over religious liberty to the highest level - the Government of the United Kingdom at the EUROPEAN Court of Human Rights to wear a cross or crucifix at work.

"The European Court of Human Rights is based in Strasbourg, FRANCE and is not a part of the European Union's patchwork of institutions but rather aligned to the Council of Europe, which is dedicated to the protection of human rights across 47 countries." Sounding dangerous? It should.
The New York Times reports that the court considers cases brought against nations that are bound by the European Convention on Human Rights, and notes that British Prime Minister David Cameron has recently called the court to restrict its power to overrule national judgments.
The Telegraph reports that the UK government will fight in court against these two women, asserting that Christians have no right to wear a cross or crucifix at work because displaying the cross is not a "requirement" of the Christian faith. Thus employers can ban wearing a cross, and consequently fire workers who insist on doing so.
Lawyers for the two women claim that the government is setting the bar too high in their position, and that "manifesting" religion includes doing things that are not a "requirement of faith." They also argue that Christians are given LESS protection than members of other religions who have been granted special status for garments or symbols such as the Sikh turban, kara bracelet or Muslim hijab. Is anyone listening??!
As England goes, so goes the U.S.A....

At least 14 YOUTHS have been stoned to DEATH in Baghdad (Iraq) in the past three weeks by Shia militants. Their crime? Dressing 'emo,' (wear tight jeans and have distinctive long or spiky haircuts.)

Just a reminder that we CANNOT allow Sharia law EVER in this country...

"Tit for tat..."

You may have read in the news this week that some school was yelling a chant, "USA! USA!" I read that too, but have been super busy so had not read any details. Today my daughter Alex called to say it was the school district in San Antonio that she and my son attended through 9th grade - Alamo Heights.

Alamo Heights is "old money" with the blue bloods of San Antonio including some of the most beautiful homes in town, along with some middle class homes that we lived in. We didn't really have the money to compete with these type of people who Spring Break and summer vacation in Europe and Vail, but it was the best public school district in the city and well respected. I could tell stories of exclusion all night long but here's what went down Saturday.
It was a basketball game of Alamo Heights vs. Edison High School (a predominantly Hispanic school) although most public high schools in San Antonio are predominantly Hispanic. Evidently the Edison kids were yelling, "Alamo Whites!" and the Heights kids were yelling, "USA! USA!"
The Edison kids only told half the story to the Express-News; the part about AH yelling USA. The AH kids said they were only responding to the Edison kids yelling Alamo Whites. But in this divisive country, anything that the is deemed as racism, they cry foul. Having worked at the Express-News for many years, I know that they HATE Alamo Heights out of jealousy, and refuse to print anything but negativity about them. This story fit their "template" that rich people are racist. While I worked there, I never admitted that I lived in AH's zip code 78209, as I would be ousted, even though my home was very middle class.
But I can tell you that Alamo Heights also plays the high school of the town I work in, and at one of the basketball games last year, all of the AH kids blacked out their teeth and wore overalls and gimme caps and yelled, "Hillbillies!" (and I'm told not in a funny way, but rude.) At the time I thought that was the height (pun intended) of arrogance, but the "hillbillies" turned it back on AH and exaggerated the hillbilly costume the next time they played, so the joke was turned around on them.
Only a few years ago, one of the southside schools of San Antonio (again, predominantly Hispanic) started throwing tortillas on the basketball court in an effort to show school spirit, but when northside schools starting doing it, it was hailed as racist. Everyone is just a little too sensitive.
Anyway.
Having been in San Antonio most of my life, I understand the angst on both sides. The Hispanics are now the majority in San Antonio and they want payback. And the whites have been there all along and feel like the Hispanics are pressuring them, thus are lashing out.
In light of the fact that this made national news and that the rich kids were deemed racist, the AH kids that chanted USA have been disciplined. But to my knowledge, nothing was said to the Edison kids.
But didn't they provoke it??

"It would take an 'act of God' for Santorum or Gingrich to win." - Mitt Romney

Well, Mitt, that's what I'm counting on... as much as you seem like a really nice man and look presidential, I still think you just see which way the wind is blowing, and go with that. I don't see passion in what you say - I see ambition. And I think ambition is fine in running companies, but we need someone with strong convictions to be captain of this ship in America. We need someone who cares about the poor and the rich, unlike what you said a month ago. We need someone who fights for life, and especially the unborn, not someone who changed their mind about it. And we especially need someone who won't go to judges for underage girls to get consent for abortions. One question that I would like to ask you, is why do you want to be president of the United States? My guess is that you will say it will be to turn us around financially, which is something that definitely needs to happen. But it's not the only thing. We have lost our moral compass and need someone to help us get it back. And really, that is more important. I'm reminded of the Bible verse, "Seek first the kingdom of God, and all other things will you then be added." For me, Rick Santorum is the man for this job, and so I'm hoping God will act, bringing the act of God that you say is necessary. And the Republicans can certainly use your business expertise, and put you in high places.
I'm glad we had this talk...

"It's time to draw a line in the sand..."

Has anybody noticed?!? We're going to hell in a handbasket, but who would know if they watched Big Media news??? No one can afford to fill up their gas tank because the Democrats won't let us drill - not on the land - not in the ocean - and not even a pipeline to bring it here... The stock market is completely sucking. And unemployment is really, really high. And I live in Texas, where we are said to be one of the best states for jobs, but here are the people that I know who are unemployed - my son, my ex-husband, my life-long best friend, my brother-in-law, my nephew, and THAT'S just for starters.

But if you turn on the TV, all you would hear about is that Rush called a 30-year-old hack activist a few bad words, which he subsequently apologized for. You would hear that born-again Christian and previous actor, Kirk Cameron, has called homosexual behavior destructive. You would hear that Republicans are women-haters and contraception haters... you just wouldn't EVER hear the real State of this Union. We need more Rush Limbaughs, more Glenn Becks, more Sean Hannitys... We need more brave, fearless warriors like Andrew Breitbart, who were conservative watchdogs and wanted to change things in a "Big" way. We need leaders to arise to run the Tea Party and take on the Progressives. It is THEY that are the "establishment" now, not the other way around. It is time to say enough is enough. It's time to draw a line in the sand. It's time to decide if our freedom is really worth fighting for, and I don't mean against our foes overseas.
I mean the enemy in our midst...

"That 70's Show..."

Rather than comment on current events today, I'm getting personal. Today my ex-husband lost his job - the job he has done for 29 years - his entire adult career. And with one quick meeting, he was given severance and told his services were no longer needed. We met at the Dallas Times Herald in 1977 at our first real jobs - he was Classified Automotive Outside Sales manager and I was one of the first females hired for National Advertising. It was such a fun, optimistic time. I feel sorry for my children to not have hope for the future like we did. All of the sales staffs at the Times Herald at that time were in our twenties, and everyone worked hard and played hard. I can remember calling on these huge financial accounts and saying, "Would you like a full page or double truck?" People had more money than they knew what to do with. Christmas parties were a huge event of the year with businesses spending thousands on those alone. And not only did we make our salary and our commission, but they also gave away trips to Vegas and the Caribbean for monthly goals.

Anyway.
We moved to San Antonio after the birth of our second child, Alex and he went to work for the Express-News. But with poor management, he sought another job with Moore Business Forms, where his father had spent his entire career in Dallas. Both of us have been in the "paper" business our entire careers, and they are a dying breed. We all know the way of metro newspapers with the introduction of the internet and the high cost of paper. And in my ex's business, the high cost of paper and desktop publishing, has done the same. His biggest accounts over the years have been the hospitals, but the final nail in the coffin lately for him is... wait for it... the Prez. Yes, the prez mandated that all hospitals have to go paperless, so that electronic files can be sent to the government, so that under Obamacare, they can oversee our every move. So with the loss of those accounts, it's been hard to make a living.
When we talked this afternoon, P was trying to process the shock of it all. It's like when a close relative is dying - you know it will eventually happen, but it always hurts and is shocking when it finally does. And as Baby Boomers with retirement that is minimal, getting a job at an older age is pretty scary. Yes, God promises to take care of our needs, but it's unsettling to say the least. And the newspaper where I work is struggling like the rest of the businesses in town, and my boss says she is about to make big changes. I'm tired of worrying about it all. My son has been unemployed in Austin since his layoff last summer, and Alex's baby is due any time. I just wish that America was like it was when I was younger.
When hope wasn't something talked about; it was just there....

Freaky Fridays - Yabba Dabba Dooooooo

Today's Freaky Friday is pretty freaky... This is (television legend) Dick Clark's "Flintstones" home that just went up for sale in California. The 82-year-old icon is selling his Malibu home that has beautiful views of the Pacific ocean sitting on top of a very steep hill on a 23 acre estate (which in California, is called a ranch.) The home is an architectural marvel and is classed as one of Malibu's landmark buildings, or as the listing real estate agent describes it, "art as architecture at it's finest." The cave-like structure and high ceilings add to the Flintstones feel as does the log burning fireplace and wine cellar. The original cartoon house was the true inspiration for the very unique home, as you can see by the photos.

You can pick it up for only $3.5 million...

"Fight the good fight of faith..." - 1 Tim. 6:12

Soooooooo much in the news today if you're a conservative.... I was able to listen to Rush as I made sales calls in and out of my car and if you haven't heard this, it's interesting. Earlier this week Rush commented on a female law student, Sandra Fluke, at Georgetown University who had made her case on Capitol Hill that she wanted her birth control paid for, because she and other women like her, could not afford it with the high cost of college... Rush has been taken out of context (as usual) as the liberals try to fire up their base over "women's health issues" since the economy is tanking no matter how hard Big Media tries to spin it. As Rush said, it's really a case of welfare and it's the first issue the Left is 'going to the mats over' in the push for government paid healthcare. Rush was trying to make the point that this makes no sense, which I TOTALLY agree with. I personally don't want to pay for this woman's birth control NOR do I want to pay for her abortion - it is HER responsibility, and as Rush added, her partner's responsibility. He did have a caller who said, half jokingly, that this female law student could add the cost of birth control to her student loan, and thus pay for it herself. And if she can't pay for her own birth control, STOP HAVING SEX!! What IS it with the entitlement complex with that generation?? They deserve to have as much sex as they want AND they deserve to have it paid for AND if, by chance, they get pregnant, we are to allow them an abortion AND pay for it?????

This is the result of "Make Love and Not War" and Free Love and all of the cliche's about the hippy's and their doctrine of the 60's. THIS is the result. My 9th grader just this week had an abstinence teacher come to her high school and say that in my generation there were only 3 STD's (sexually transmitted diseases) in the 70's and they were curable. Now there are 28, and the only 3 curable ones are the same as the 70's. THIS is the result of that mindset. Her teacher blamed it on The Pill and that women could have sex without fear of getting pregnant. So here we are... this country has been turned inside out. And when my generation is dead, THEN what... We've got to draw a line in the sand (in case you are younger and go to public school, that's a line from the alamo.) We've got to stop this freight train to hell and turn it around. And I mean this in every sense, financially, socially, everything. We've gone too far. We're headed off a cliff. We've got to be outraged. We've got to be willing to fight this war.
Which brings me to my other topic, Andrew Breitbart. I didn't know much about him, but what I did know I liked. A lot. And I am completely saddened that someone this brave is gone. Someone who was willing to fight on the front lines and did, has died. The words I've heard today describing him are fearless, courageous, bold, brilliant, warrior. I only hope I could have the same words said about myself. If you, too, are a conservative, you know that we are in the battle for the soul of America, which then effects the entire planet. We have to take it battle by battle, just like Andrew did. Just like Rush does. It's time to get our armour and help them.
And it starts today...
