Tonight what moves me is Taylor Swift. Seems the 22-year-old Country music star has asked an 18-year-old cancer sufferer, Kevin McGuire, to be her date to this year's American Country Music Awards. McGuire had asked Swift to be his prom date and she responded that she could not make it to the prom, but asked if he would be her date instead for the award show.
Taylor Swift is one of the very few current stars that is a good role model for DD and teenagers everywhere. With the likes of Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, and even Katy Perry, it leaves only a handful of young women for them to look up to. Recent Disney star Miley Cyrus comes to mind as THE girl all pre-teens were emulating until very recently when she went completely off the rails to become the Hollywood train wreck cliche like Lindsay Lohan. The only other two decent role models that even come to my mind are Carrie Underwood and Hillary Duff. (There might be one or two more, but I would have to search for awhile.)
In the mean time, kudos to Taylor Swift for always taking the high road and understanding that people are watching, specifically 15-year-olds like DD and her friends.
