"One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain."

Yes, I was one of the millions that watched the Grammy's. Evidently they had the highest viewership since the 80's, and even Alex said it was the best one she had ever watched. I'm not sure why... Yes, there was something for everyone, but then the Grammy's is known for that. But they mainstreamed the music, and so it was tolerable for all music tastes. Personally, I suffered through Katy Perry's 'middle finger' to her soon-to-be-ex, Russell Brand and Nicki Minaj's demonic exorcism number but it was worth it to see the Beach Boys and Paul McCartney sing with the younger guys in some 'blast from the past' moments. The host was LLCool J (I don't have any idea what his real name is, since they all seem to have nicknames like Ice T, Jay Z and P Diddy,) but he was perfect for the Whitney Houston memorium evening, as many wanted to mourn the passing of some of our former royalty gone wild, like her and Michael Jackson. Too much... Too much money. Too much excess. Too much fame. Just too much... And when they couldn't deal with it, they gave in to the "yes men" around them that enabled them for money, and took drugs. Drugs to speed up and drugs to unwind. We saw it coming. Whitney was a train wreck like Elvis was towards the end. We all knew "the phone call" was coming at some point. It's just that it came in such a public way, the night before the Grammy's and in the Beverly Hilton. She wasn't at home on a summer evening, she was partying for the pre-Grammy's. And so it was fodder for the media, just like Michael Jackson. The gossip magazines will cover this for the rest of the year... America cannot stomach too much politics this year and will be seeking many distractions. And the fact that so many are suffering, they will obsess over things like this to get our eye off the ball.

And so, it was the show that bound us all as Americans, under the guise of music, to start the healing of the death of an icon, symbolizing the death of the America we are mourning as well.
Rest in peace...
