Okay, to be honest, I DO feel guilty about my shallow Fashion Police yesterday when all of these important stories are out there... but we do need comic relief every now and then don't we??
Today the story that's trending (and even with my Facebook friends) is the article about the two "ethicists" working with Australian universities who are arguing that if abortion of a fetus is allowable, so should the termination of a newborn. Their argument is that "both a fetus and a newborn are human beings but neither is a 'person' in the sense of 'subject of a moral right to life." They cite incidents of Downs Syndrome as a reason someone might have an after-birth abortion or if the family could be socially, economically or psychologically burdened or damaged by the newborn....
I knew this was coming. We were warned about this in the 70's when abortion was legalized. Many said that the future argument would be just what these two men are saying - that murdering a child could be justified in certain cases...
This is disturbing in so many ways... and I'm sure you're first thought is the same as mine. If the child is birthed, why not let it be given up for adoption? Which is another thing I don't understand about "partial-birth abortion" (also infanticide.) Why kill the child when it's being born?? Although abortion is murder and thus wrong in every case, it is easier to understand that many women opt for the convenience of abortion in early pregnancy because they don't want to be burdened or embarressed. (Unfortunately I have several friends who did this, and have regretted it their entire lives.) But how is it even fathomable that they would go through the entire nine months, and watch their own flesh and blood be born, (or partially born) and then murder the child?? For convenience???? This is beyond amoral. This is demonic.
I can't even believe it has made the top news stories of the day...
