Wow, the tabloids must be in heaven with all of the juicy breakups lately. Like Jake and Vienna, Mel and Oksana, Sandra and James, Tiger and Elin. And Americans eat it up like candy. Maybe it's because the middle class doesn't have much going on except working and trying to keep their heads above water. Trying to make sure they hang on to the job that three people used to do...
These couples' are so glamourous with their Hollywood lives and gorgeous looks with yachts, red carpet premieres and exciting professions.
Each week the rest of us watch the stars living the dream, and imagining how we would do it much better and smarter. It's obvious that Jake and Vienna are rookies, airing their dirty laundry for the world to see. And then the opposite end of the spectrum is Tiger and Elin, hoping for complete privacy. Then there's the 'He said, She said,' where people pick a side since we will never know the real truth of what happened, and can only go by what we've seen along the way.
We all put ourselves in their shoes and empathize with what similar experiences we've had. Sandra Bullock and Elin Woods seem to have been blind-sighted by philandering husbands, both while seeming to be good wives. And we've all known gold digger women like Vienna and Oksana, who have manipulated the situation to get her man, only to discard him when he wasn't what she was expecting.
And finally, with all of the bad news lately, and there seems to be way more than usual with the Gulf disaster, Stimulus disaster, Financial disaster and all of the other Disaster du Jours, all of this fodder is such a wonderful distraction from a mundane life. Such bubble gum for the eyes and ears. Such an escape from our own reality.
So thank you Hollywood. Once again, you have amused me and, at least for a moment, made me forget about all of MY problems...
