Brave New World?

Today Rush was talking about an article that discusses the "Hookup culture in colleges" that ran in the New York Times.
Ahem.
I've been discussing that here over the past year, only I contend, IT'S IN HIGH SCHOOL TOO. And yes, I'm not in huge New York City. No, we're in a conservative small town in Texas, although we are sophisticated. I've been noticing how aggressive the girls are here in DD's high school. It's the girls that push the boys to have sex, and although some guys think it's great and take full advantage, there are a good number who are trying to be responsible and wait until they are older. Too, there is the scare of having the responsibility of a baby as a teenager, and the boys seem more scared than the girls are. I discussed with DD today, that once God has been pulled out of the equation, then what is stopping them?? She has shared with me that oral sex in her school is nothing - and hardly considered something that is wrong. As a matter of fact, since it's all relative to them, if they are not having sexual intercourse, they pat themselves on the back if all they are doing is oral sex.
There is no love - no committment - no attachment - and no emotion really. I'm one of the few moms on Vine, where most of them make inane videos of themselves cussing or doing something stupid to impress their friends. It's pretty eye-opening. And it's all public, so is not private like Facebook and Instagram can be, if desired.
What all this seems to lead will be unsatisfied adults some day. They will be used to multiple partners, and won't know how to be faithful to one person. Nor care I suppose. How did this all happen? Influences. Movie stars. Rock stars. God removed from everything. Even TV shows like "Friends," where they play and date tons of partners, and have sex with multiple partners, and not have children, and basically delay adulthood for most or all of their twenties, has influenced the next generation to eat, drink and be merry and put off "real life" (responsibility) for as long as they can.
And, I've been saying for two years that these kids are all way too busy. But they are told if they are not uber active, and have a ton of activities, and aren't "winners," then they won't get into good colleges or get scholarships to good colleges. So, they burn they candle at both ends, and busy themselves into exhaustion trying to reach their goals. And say they don't have time to invest in a relationship.
Let's not forget social networking because one of the goals is popularity, and with kids these days (and everyone else too) perception IS reality, so the end game is not having fun as much as it is photographing or videoing each other to make it LOOK like they're having fun.
Ugh.... it's a brave new world....
