After spending a bazillion dollars on braces for DD, she is almost ready to have them removed in just 2 more months. Her orthodontist relayed to us that she is in his "top ten" of worst teeth he's ever worked on. Indeed, when she was younger, the kids at school were mean and would make fun of them, making her only want to smile the "Mona Lisa" smile. So as I'm reading internet stories this morning, a trend in Japan just caught my eye.... to make your teeth more CROOKED??
Yes, it seems that Japanese women are going gaga for a crowded, crooked-toothed smile with accentuated canine teeth, known as the 'yaeba' look. Tokyo dentists say this cosmetic procedure involves attaching non-permanent adhesive mini-fangs to canine teeth. Yaeba means double tooth and is an attempt at making a smile more child-like replicating the odd alignment of smiles affected by delayed baby teeth. Dentists are also hearing that it's a response to the (vampire) Twilight movies...
Ugh. At least they aren't permanent...
